About the controller
The Pioneer DDJ 800 is a compact, 2-channel controller designed for rekordbox DJ that packs many of the professional features found in club setups into a portable, gig-ready unit. It sits just below the DDJ-1000 in Pioneer’s lineup, making it a great middle ground for DJs who want something powerful without the bulk of a full-size controller.
One of the DDJ 800’s standout features is its full-size jog wheels, which feel almost identical to those on the flagship CDJ-2000NXS2. They're mechanical (not capacitive like on many cheaper controllers), meaning the response feels tighter and more precise—especially useful for scratching and fast cue adjustments. Each jog wheel also has a high-resolution LCD screen in the center displaying track information, BPM, time remaining, waveform overview, and more, helping DJs stay focused without needing to constantly look at their laptop.
The mixer section closely mirrors a club-standard DJM layout, complete with Sound Color FX (like Filter, Pitch, Dub Echo, and Noise) and Beat FX, which can be selected via a dedicated display and assigned to each channel using a physical FX strip—just like on a DJM-900. This makes the DDJ 800 a great practice tool for club DJs looking to transition smoothly to a professional booth setup.
What also sets the DDJ 800 apart is its mic section. It includes two microphone inputs with dedicated 3-band EQ and anti-feedback processing—features rarely found on controllers in this size range, making it ideal for mobile DJs who do weddings or events.
Connectivity is strong for a mid-sized controller. You get balanced XLR and RCA master outs, a booth out, and an AUX input for external audio sources. It’s also USB bus-powered and relatively lightweight, which makes it highly portable without sacrificing durability.
Overall, the DDJ 800 is a reliable and professional-grade controller for DJs who use rekordbox. It's perfect for those who want the feel and layout of a club system in a more manageable format—whether you're performing live, practicing at home, or playing events where portability is key.
